Phil's team did a great job laying a porcelain patio area & erecting our new gazebo. They put a lot of thought into how to best create a border between the old sandstone patio area & the new porcelain section. The pebble border has worked a treat.

Phil and his stellar team have turned our sorry garden from a weary battlefield to a modern but relaxed series of outdoor living spaces that together create a feeling of class but with traditional familiarity. It fits in perfectly with the surrounding gardens and tree lined backdrop of our small but lovely home in the Cotswolds. A huge thank you to everyone that had the skills, vision and experience to make this all happen including Rowan Tindale who started the whole process with his amazing design artwork.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is block paving, and how is it used in patios?

Block paving involves using individual bricks or concrete paving slabs to create strong and decorative surfaces. It’s often used for patios, paths, and driveways because it’s flexible in design and hardwearing.

In Gloucestershire, many homeowners choose block paving for garden landscaping projects. It works well with both traditional and modern garden styles, especially when combined with natural stone like limestone or slate. It also pairs nicely with edging, turfing, or even decking to complete the outdoor space.

The cost of patios and block paving in Gloucestershire varies based on materials, design complexity, and project size. On average, block paving costs between £90 to £130 per m², while patios range from £65 to £150 per m².

Factors influencing the price include the choice of materials (e.g. concrete, natural stone, indian sandstone), site preparation needs, and any extra landscaping services. For a clear and accurate quote, we recommend speaking to a local paving specialist in the area.

A standard block paving patio in Gloucestershire usually takes around 3 to 5 days from start to finish. This depends on the size of your space and the materials you’ve chosen.

Our dedicated team always starts with ground preparation, followed by compacting the base and laying your chosen blocks. If your patio includes garden walls, steps, or curved paths, it may take slightly longer but the results are always worth it.

In most cases, you don’t need planning permission for paving services in Gloucestershire. This includes patios, block paving, and tarmac driveways, especially if the materials used are permeable and allow surface water to drain naturally into the ground.

However, if your paving project involves concrete paving slabs or natural stone on a large scale, or affects drainage near your property, it’s worth checking with your local council. We always advise discussing any major landscaping projects beforehand.

Keeping your patio in top shape is easy with a few basic habits:

  • Sweep off leaves and dirt weekly

  • Power wash the surface every few months

  • Refill joints with kiln-dried sand when needed

  • Tackle weeds before they spread

For paving made with indian sandstone or limestone, we often recommend applying a sealant to protect against stains and weather. Most of our Gloucestershire clients also book seasonal maintenance as part of their wider garden landscaping plan.

Choosing the right materials depends on how you use your garden and the style of your home. Natural stone like slate, limestone or indian sandstone adds a premium finish. Concrete paving slabs are more budget-friendly and work well for simple layouts.

We’ll walk you through options based on durability, style and usage. Whether you need hard landscaping for a large family garden or a tidy patio in a compact space, we’ll help you pick quality materials that last and look great.
